Like so many houses in the Hamptons, this is neither a guest house nor a host house (the owner can’t afford to own without renters). We sampled and scratched our materials from the local (host) residential context: gunite (from pools), wood siding and decking, grasses and sand and quartz stones from the nearby beach, creating strands that weave over and under and into and out of each other, drawing forth differential associations of guest and host.
